Background: Acute caffeine ingestion can improve exercise performance. Interplay between caffeine habituation and training status on the performance-enhancing effect of caffeine is unknown. Hypothesis: Habitual caffeine consumption and training status affect the ergogenicity of pre-exercise caffeine intake on exercise performance. Study Design: Double-blind, placebo-controlled, counterbalanced experimental design. Level of Evidence: Level 3. Methods: Eighty physically inactive men were randomized into 1 of 4 groups: caffeine supplementation (CAF), caffeine supplementation + exercise training (CAFEXE), placebo (PLA), and placebo + exercise training (PLAEXE); high-intensity interval training and caffeine were administered for 9 and 8 weeks, respectively. Data were collected pre-test, mid-test, post-test, and delayed post-test, each including 2 experiment sessions (3 mg/kg caffeine or placebo), with an additional experiment session post-test (6 mg/kg caffeine). In each experiment session, 45-min after consuming a placebo or caffeine, a 3-km running test and a Wingate power test were performed. Results: Pre-exercise ingestion of 3 mg/kg caffeine improved 3-km running time and mean power output (MPO) in all groups at all stages ( P < 0.05); this effect was higher in trained than in untrained volunteers ( P < 0.05). Habitual caffeine consumption reduced the ergogenic effect of caffeine in both aerobic and anaerobic trials ( P < 0.05); 6 mg/kg caffeine enhanced this decrease only in CAFEXE ( P < 0.05). Short-term caffeine withdrawal augmented the reduced ergogenic effect of caffeine on 3-km running performance and MPO in CAF and CAFEXE ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: Habituation to caffeine and training status could partially influence the ergogenic effects of caffeine on exercise performance. Clinical Relevance: Regular caffeine consumption leads to some degree of tolerance and decreases its ergogenicity. A pre-exercise increase in caffeine dosage in trained people and short-term caffeine withdrawal in both trained and untrained people could compensate for the reduced caffeine ergogenicity in young men.

Background/Objectives: This study assessed the individual and combined effects of green tea extract and ginger supplementation on endurance performance, metabolic responses, perceived exertion, thermal sensation, and muscle soreness in normothermic and cold environmental conditions. Methods: In a randomized, double-blind crossover trial, sixteen recreationally active males (age: 23.4 ± 0.4 years; VO2 max: 46.8 ± 2.8 mL/kg/min) were tested in eight conditions (placebo [maltodextrin], green tea [500 mg], ginger [1000 mg], combined), all in normothermic (21–24 °C) and cold (5–7 °C) environments. All supplements and the placebo were encapsulated in identical capsules to ensure blinding. Participants completed a submaximal time-to-exhaustion (TTE) test at 70% VO2 max on a cycle ergometer. TTE, respiratory exchange ratio (RER), perceived exertion (RPE), thermal sensation (TSS), and muscle soreness via a visual analog scale (VAS), assessed 24 h post-exercise, were measured. Results: In normothermic condition, green tea and combined supplementation significantly increased TTE and reduced RER compared to the placebo (p < 0.05), and that combined supplementation lowered RPE relative to the placebo and ginger (all p < 0.05). In cold conditions, combined supplementation significantly enhanced TTE, reduced RER, and improved TSS compared to the placebo and ginger (p < 0.05), while all supplements decreased VAS relative to the placebo (p < 0.05). Ginger alone showed no significant effect on TTE or RER but improved TSS and VAS in cold compared to the placebo (p < 0.05). Cold placebo conditions exhibited significantly higher RPE and VAS than all normothermic conditions (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Green tea enhances endurance and fat oxidation in normothermic conditions, while its combination with ginger can optimize performance, thermal comfort, and recovery in cold environments. These findings suggest a practical nutritional strategy for mitigating environmental stress during exercise, specific to the acute supplementation in males. Trial Registration: This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (Identifier: NCT07150533).

Background/Objectives: In this study, we aimed to examine the effect of a 12-week dance (Zumba) performance on the fear of happiness and life satisfaction perceptions of high school students studying at boarding school. Methods: The sample group of this study consisted of high school students staying in the school dormitory in the 2022–2023 academic year. A total of 82 students between the ages of 15 and 17, selected by the convenience sampling method, participated in the study, and 41 of the students were selected as the experimental group and 41 as the control group. The Fear of Happiness Scale and Satisfaction with Life Scale were used in the study. The measurement tools were administered as a pre-test one week before the dance program started and as a post-test one week after the end of the program. Two-way ANOVA for mixed measures was applied to determine whether the fear of happiness and life satisfaction pre-test scores were statistically significantly different between the experimental and control groups and to compare the pre-test and post-test difference scores. Results: As a result of the research, it was concluded that the fear of happiness of the students who participated in the dance activity decreased, and their life satisfaction levels increased. These findings emphasize that dance can be an important resource that can increase the psychological well-being of young people. Conclusions: As a result, it can be said that the 12-week dance activity positively affected students’ fear of happiness and life satisfaction perceptions.

Objective: Dietary supplementation with beetroot juice (BRJ), rich in nitrate, enhances nitric oxide bioavailability and may positively influence exercise performance. However, the impact of acute BRJ ingestion on judo-specific performance has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the acute effects of BRJ on judo-specific performance, explosive power, back-muscle strength, and handgrip strength in recreational adolescent judokas. Methods: Thirty-five male adolescent recreational judokas completed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial, consuming either 140 mL of BRJ (∼12.8 mmol nitrate) or a placebo, with a 7-day wash-out. In each session, after a 4-min randori, athletes performed the Sargent jump test, back-strength dynamometer pulls, handgrip dynamometer trials, and the Special Judo Fitness Test (SJFT), with a 10-s rest between each performance. Results: Compared to placebo, BRJ significantly increased explosive jump height (+3%, p < 0.05), back-muscle strength, (+3.2%, p < 0.01), handgrip strength (+8.4%, p < 0.01), and total SJFT throws (+2.4%, p < 0.05), while reducing 1-min post-SJFT heart rate (−7.9 b·min−1, p < 0.001) and improving the SJFT index (−4%, p < 0.001). Immediate post-SJFT heart rate and perceived exertion did not differ between conditions (p > 0.05).Conclusion: Acute BRJ is a practical, natural ergogenic aid for adolescent judokas, enhancing explosive power, muscular strength, and judo-specific performance. These findings support the use of nitrate supplementation as an ergogenic aid for young athletes engaged in high-intensity, intermittent exercise activities.

Background and Objective: Match analysis plays a vital role in forming the scientific foundation of training and guiding strategic decision-making in wrestling. By objectively evaluating athletes’ technical and tactical performances, coaches and athletes can optimize preparation and in-match strategies. This study aimed to analyze the technical and tactical characteristics of medal matches in Greco-Roman (GR), Freestyle (FS), and Women’s Wrestling (WW) at the 2024 European Wrestling Championships. Methods: A total of 54 elite-level matches (18 from each style), held in Bucharest between 12 and 18 February, 2024, were retrospectively analyzed. Three expert observers evaluated the matches using video footage from the United World Wrestling (UWW) archive. Descriptive statistics were performed using SPSS 25.0. Results: Across 301 recorded actions, 2-point techniques (52.16%) and 1-point techniques (43.85%) were dominant; only 3.99% were 4-point actions. GR primarily utilized body lock and gut wrench; FS favored single-leg attacks and leg lace. In WW, the scores were obtained from techniques applied in the par terre position with a high frequency (60.8%). Most victories in all styles occurred by points rather than technical superiority or falls. Conclusion: The findings reveal a strategic preference for low-risk, controlled techniques in high-level matches. These insights can inform evidence-based training and match preparation for future championships.
