Background: Previous research has reported a strong relationship between vertical jumping, sprinting, and agility, as a reflection of lower-limb power. Unilateral analysis of this relationship has not yet been explored. This study primarily investigated the associations between single-leg countermovement jump (CMJ), sprint, and agility performances in youth basketball players. Methods: Thirty-five male basketball players from the youth category (age 15.06 ± 2.62 years, n = 32 right-limb dominant; n = 3 left-limb dominant) performed single-leg CMJ, 20 m sprint, and T-drill agility tests over two sessions. Force–time-related performance variables were measured using a single-leg CMJ test on a Kistler force plate. Results: Significant moderate to large negative correlations were observed between single-leg CMJ variables, 20 m sprint, and T-drill agility, except for mean force for both dominant and non-dominant leg measures (r = −0.384 to −0.705). Mean power and mean force were correlated with the physical characteristics of the athletes for both legs (r = −0.389 to −0.843). Flight time and jump height were identified as the best predictor variables for both sprint and agility time in the stepwise model (R2 = 0.608 to 0.660). No statistical inter-limb differences were found during the single-leg CMJ test (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The study findings suggest that youth basketball players with greater single-leg jump output most likely have better sprint and agility performances. Thus, trainers and athletic performance coaches may include unilateral limb exercises in their training programs to enhance lower-limb explosive performance and reduce limb asymmetries.

The foot absorbs shocks with its arches, muscles, ligaments and joints, and bodyweight transmission and it pushes the body forward during all movement patterns. Pes planus is more important in sports activities that include balance and sports performance, such as walking, running, jumping, or transferring weight to a single lower limb. This study, conducted with this information in mind, aims to examine the effects of pes planus deformity on balance and vertical jump performance. Fifty athletes were included in the study. The presence of pes planus was evaluated according to the Feiss line. Balance measurements were performed with a Balance System SD Biodex. Vertical jump performance was recorded using an Omegawave jumping mat. The relationship between the pes planus grades of the participants and their balance and jump performances was analyzed using the Spearman correlation method. Vertical jump and Limit of stability (LOS) was significantly correlated with pes planus.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 2d:4d digit ratio on shooting performance in basketball players. 30 male and 30 female basketball players who have been actively playing basketball for 3 years at the age of 15±04.1.69 participated in the study. Participants were asked to score 5 shots from the free throw line by scoring between 0 and 5 to determine their basketball shooting skill performance. To determine finger length, the second finger (2D) and fourth finger (4D) (Figure 3) were measured using a 0-150 mm (USA, Cocraft) Vernier digital caliper with an accuracy of 0.01 mm in millimeters (mm). In addition, the 20 Meter Shuttle Running Test was applied to measure the endurance of the participants. Independent sample T-Test and Pearson correlation test were used for statistical analysis. There was no significant difference in the participants' shot parameters, Shuttle Run Test and other 2D and 4D parameters (p>0.05). There was a negative correlation between the 20 Meter Shuttle Running Test and the left hand 2d:4d variables of the participants (p0.05). It was found that there was no effect between 2D: 4D and aerobic performance and shooting in adolescent male and female basketball players. This result may be due to the age, training level and heterogeneity of the sample group.

This study aims to examine the effect of the duration and frequency of exercise on the purpose and meaning of life. In this direction, 531 individuals, 221 males and 310 females, engaged in regular and irregular exercise, participated in the study. In addition to the demographic questionnaire prepared by the researchers, the Purpose and Meaning of Life Scale was used in the study. In the analysis of the data, firstly, the normal distribution values of the data were examined and parametric tests were applied after it was determined that the data showed normal distribution. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis, it was determined that the participants had high levels of purpose and meaning of life and that the variables of educational status, regular exercise status, weekly exercise repetition and exercise duration significantly differentiated the meaning and purpose of life levels. According to the results obtained, it can be said that regular exercise and the duration and frequency of this regular exercise positively affect the purpose and meaning of life.

Background: Inspiratory muscle warm-up (IWU) has been hypothesized to enhance athletic performance by pre-activating respiratory muscles; however, evidence in professional natural male bodybuilders is scarce. The present study investigated the acute effects of IWU on One-Repetition maximum (1RM) bench press performance and pulmonary function. Methods: The present randomized controlled experimental study comprised 20 male athletes with an average training experience of 3.21 ± 1.44 years, who trained for more than 5 h per week and had participated in national or international competitions. At the commencement of the study, all participants underwent a series of pulmonary function tests (PFTs), measurements of maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP and MEP), and a 1RM test. Following the initial assessments, which were conducted seventy-two hours prior, participants were randomly assigned to either the IWU group ( n = 10) or the control (CON) group ( n = 10). While the IWU group performed both inspiratory muscle warm-up and standard exercise warm-up, the CON group performed only the standard warm-up. Subsequent to the execution of the warm-up protocols, both groups were subjected to re-evaluation through the means of the 1RM test and respiratory parameter measurements. Results: The IWU group demonstrated a 5.96% greater enhancement in 1RM performance in comparison to the control group ( p < 0.001). Furthermore, significant increases were observed in FVC, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC following IWU, with improvements of 2.57%, 2.44%, and 2.65%, respectively ( p < 0.001). Furthermore, an additional 2.39% enhancement in MEP was identified in favour of the IWU group ( p = 0.008). The alterations in MIP and PEF exhibited by the two groups were analogous, with no statistically significant disparities observed ( p > 0.05). Conclusions: The present study has demonstrated that IWU has the capacity to rapidly enhance maximal strength and respiratory function in professional bodybuilders. Consequently, IWU can be advocated as an efficacious warm-up technique to augment exercise performance in bodybuilding athletes. Trial registration: This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov under the title “Acute effects of inspiratory muscle warmup on muscular performance and pulmonary function in natural bodybuilders’’.
